Child Support and Child Support Modification

Child support is monthly payment that goes from one parent to the other parent. The purpose of child support is to equalize the financial resources of both homes so the child will have the as close to the same standard of living in both homes.

Child support is based on the policy of Colorado that all parents owe a duty of support to their children. Even if a parent does not have any custody or visitation with a child, that parent owes a duty of support. Child support in Colorado is based on a presumptive calculation and the best interests of the child.  The court has the discretion to deviate from the presumptive calculated support amount based on the financial circumstances of the parties.
